Vesting in cryptocurrencies is the process of gradually unlocking tokens for certain project participants (such as developers, investors or employees) over a given period of time.

This mechanism is used to avoid the sudden sale of a large number of tokens in the market right after distribution, which could cause a sharp drop in prices.

The key elements of vesting:

🔵 Vesting period — This is the period during which tokens are unlocked. For example, tokens can be unlocked gradually over 12 or 24 months.

🔵 Cliff — This is the waiting period before vesting begins. For example, if a project has a 6-month cliff, this means that the participant will not receive any tokens during these six months, and they will then begin to be released according to a predefined schedule.
