GMā˜• Happy Gen Art Friday. Cables and Clouds by @disruptedstar is an impressive project. I've heard of it and seen pieces, but never explored it before. I'm blown away by the outputs from it.

Yeah I do not use much social accounts and I did not know how to do it ā€¦ Thread or articles are definitely something missing šŸ˜‰ Thanks for the degens (I must admit I do not know what to do with it, do you have a doc somewhere that explains it ?)

7/11 I've built libraries of patterns with different properties (when I came to the generative art scene, it was first with these pieces in mind)... I've realized some paintings and sculptures using these patterns...

10/11 Space exploration has driven my Voyager project on @artblocks (even if I do not work on solar system objects or exoplanets...). https://www.artblocks.io/marketplace/collections/voyager-by-disruptedstar

9/11 Fun fact : my very first generative art piece on @fxhash contains some of the patterns I've created to build the coded mask : fxhash.xyz/generative/sluā€¦

8/11 I've then generated 650000 patterns and selected the best in sensitivity and location accuracy... This is how the pattern of the coded mask pattern has been created. The design of the final mask is much more complicated than a simple sheet of metal with holes since it needs to resist to very large vibrations...

6/11 Unlike all the coded masks that have already been used in space, because of the 4keV threshold, it needed to be self-supporting (i.e. you can simply make holes in a foil). I developed a generative algorithm to build such patterns (using advances mathematical tools like graph and percolation theory).

4/11 The idea is to simply modulate the light coming in with a known pattern and after some maths you are able to reconstruct the sky image... The light is modulated with a coded mask (something that can block x-rays partially and force a source to cast a specific light and shadow on the detector)

3/11 I work on the SVOM mission and on the ECLAIRs telescope (in the hard x-ray, 4-150keV). ECLAIRs needs to have a large field of view... in this energy range, you canot use mirrors or lenses... it requires the use of a specific technology : coded mask aperture.

2/11 As you probably know I'm an astrophysicist at University of Paris. I work on high energy astrophysics, the sources I study are among the most energetic in the universe and involve black holes or neutron stars (gamma ray bursts, blazars, Tidal Disruption Event (hence my artist name : DisruptedStar)).
