just onboarded an app developer IRL to Ethereum. he was dealing with a stripe integration and convinced him to move to Ethereum. i showed him Daimo and how easy it is to get onchain. and he was blown away. the **number 1** most confusing part of the conversation was Layer 2s. for an outsider they just do not understand what a Layer 2 is. they understand "Ethereum", "Solana" etc. as some type of global database but it's confusing what a layer 2 is. he was like, "so i deploy the smart contract on the layer 2"? i think it's really important that we fix this developer mental friction. even experienced web2 devs will take a second to figure it out.

another insight: he mentioned he was using “supabase”. web2 app developers are always talking in this way: - use vercel - use stripe - use supabase - use planetscale everything has been productized. we spend so much time trying to align on a cohesive L2 vision, when in reality we should be extremely product focused. developers want to know: - how do i integrate payments? - how do i setup accounts / login? in the web2 world nobody says “oh check out AWS or Google cloud”. these are higher level decisions that the tech team commits to. i also do think over time products will benefit from marketing that they are built on Ethereum, as it will have strong legitimacy.
