Pui Pejulan, an old dayak lady who is about 76 years old, spends her days creating bead jewellery such as headbands, necklaces, bracelets, hats, and anjat (baby carriers). Since the 1980s, Pui Pejulan has chosen to live in Pampang Village with her four children and many grandchildren. Pui Pejulan also has tattoos on her body, particularly on her legs and arms. For elderly Dayak women, it is common to have tattoos on their bodies, which is different from the younger generation. The era of globalisation has influenced the mindset and lifestyle of the younger Dayak Kenyah generation in Pampang Village. They now have progressive thinking, with many pursuing education up to the university level. A significant number of the younger generation have chosen to work in offices, run businesses, or even work outside the island. However, they are still intact with tradition and cultural traits, some still choose to help their parents with traditional farming and agriculture. 3 replies
