Before the advent of Islam, the Kaaba was a significant religious site for the various tribes of the Arabian Peninsula. During this time, the Kaaba housed numerous idols. Each tribe had its idols and deities represented there, and the Kaaba became a major pilgrimage site for polytheistic Arabs.
