Would advise against getting a degree and instead seeking out a staff dev in the role you envision for yourself and who is willing to mentor you. You also need to be at a company with staff level project opportunities, which not all have.

Yes and no. My tip % is the same inside the normal range of quality but if a place is exceptional / very unique / I'm a regular then I tip high. It's nice to have the option to give more for a very special experience.
