i worked with this guy once at LL Bean who was such a hardcore vegan he would try to buy as much **pre-owned** leather goods as possible because in his philosophy if the animal already died the most ethical thing to do is maximize the lifespan of the leather goods it produced instead of having the life wasted

this is not rational because its probably has the opposite effect; it likely displaces someone else from buying that second hand leather good who may now buy a first hand one & create more demand for new leather products. this kind of ethical logicking is common. Will this food end up in the bin, or will staff eat it?
