Long time coming, but going to properly shut down discove.xyz Jan 1st; any remaining users, export your data/feed algo code that you want to keep. It costs too much to run & maintain, given nr of custom feeds it caches and given its hosted on vercel. Might relaunch at some point/could open source if enough interest

For additional context, while I haven't been working on @discove for the last 6 months, I'm still building in the farcaster ecosystem via @mod whereby I think I can have a greater impact on helping farcaster succeed. One of the reasons I pivoted was that with discove, the incentive was to compete with other apps on FC

this meant that things I wanted to do, like open source my code, felt like they would increase competition for my DAUs in the short term. Maybe thats too zero sum thinking, but its much easier to convert an existing farcaster DAU to a discove DAU than a new user, esp. since in May there was no permissionless signup

with @mod we have an incentive to open source everything and collaborate and help every Farcaster app succeed against incumbents like X. What we're building with @mod is additive to progress made by other Farcaster apps rather than competitive with them, starting from scratch. With mod we created extra Farcaster OSS
