Plenty of accounts run by humans that produce spammy content though Why do you think proof of human is important?

They are breaking "proof of work". In a mmorpg game, if someone is using plug-in, it would ruin the game for everyone, causing inflation of in-game currency and gear. remember @dangerwillrobin 's script? Spammy content by human is still a problem but since they are run by human and thus have "limited power", their damage is not as severe imo.

Fair points Fwiw I think treating follows by people you know as mechanism for detecting non-spam accounts is pretty effective
