The IVF clinic she went to implanted another couple’s embryo. After raising the child for 5 months she surrendered him to the biological parents 

There’s no way to tell how many mistakes like this and others occur with IVF because most end in arbitration. No one’s tracking anything

And calls for industry regulation are meeting fierce pushback 

“The IVF industry has historically opposed additional regulation, saying that mistakes are no more common than in any other field of medicine.” 

There also is an unwillingness to confront an embryo’s personhood that plays a part. No one wants to link IVF and abortion

One thing to me seems certain— as more people turn to IVF as its popularity grows for genetic family planning (vs fertility alone) — there will be more mistakes

These are things you think would only happen in movies but happen so often in real life. Imagine trying hard to conceive naturally and then proceeding to do IVF that costs thousands of dollars and you succeed just for you to carry someone else’s baby for 9 months and go through labour just to have to give the child back. 

Where does this poor mother go from here and frankly i would have lost my mind literally. 

There are so many changes in healthcare especially womens healthcare that need to be made. A very careless mistake that should imo not have happened.
