The Western world has vilified winning because it implies the existence of losers, and equity is the top commandment.

The idea that everything must be zero sum, and that the only way to have a good life is to ruin the lives of others is kind of a shitty one. It's not hard to build systems that raise the quality of life for everyone. You can live well without fucking people over. So many legitimately have trouble with that concept.
