The last few days have made one thing painfully clear: we're still treating the EF as the heart of the ecosystem. This mindset is a weakness. Ethereum's future depends on the community, not a single entity. We must move past the idea that the EF is indispensable and build a network that thrives without it. Decentralisation demands it.

I very much agree, but it's important to keep in mind that there's also significant danger on the other side of that pendulum. The Bitcoin Foundation (of which I'm a lifetime member) leaned hard into dethroning itself, which ended up allowing profit driven bad actors (Blockstream) to buy up key developers, and oust anyone interested in advancing the protocol. This effectively killed any future protocol development, which is why Vitalik had to build Ethereum in the first place.
