Don’t understand the specifics of Hollywood strike and want to discuss. - what are specific demands in negotiations WGA/SAGA have? - if total residuals are up 30% this last decade but median pay per project is down 4% doesn’t it mean there are more projects at lower budgets? - does AI directly play into this?

as for AI, WGA have called to: "Regulate use of artificial intelligence on MBA-covered projects: AI can’t write or rewrite literary material; can’t be used as source material; and MBA-covered material can’t be used to train AI." https://www.wgacontract2023.org/the-campaign/wga-negotiations-status-as-of-5-1-2023

Can WGA writers still use generative AI tooling to assist in projects that they work on? Basically every word processor has it built in now, and the tooling is only getting more extensive. The next generation of writers is going to grow up using this tech regularly and it seems unfair to exclude them.

i guess if it was non-MBA work, like something they were working on to pitch totally fresh, that might be different, but i'm not a contract lawyer or anything, so not sure if even that work is covered by MBA.

accordingly to the doc, no one can use AI, including themselves. they've made it all or nothing. just my imo. but it's also just 1 of many things on the table atm. scott galloway had a quote on this on pivot a few days ago, that no other industry in history has held up innovation for the workers. it's never happened.
