Right, so it was a revenue driver for a solid 20 years and then became a sink in the 2000s. What changed?

We became even more of a convenience / car culture? And are we sure it was a revenue driver? Also yeah… maybe after awhile it just became an attractive nuisance. 

Their focus on drive-thru is very telling. My local has 2 lanes and it’s always busy but hardly any use of the parking lot. The money is in those that buy and leave, not in those that linger.
