They probably did the research and found it was more of a money sink than a gain. If it’s a corporation, just follow the money.

Right, so it was a revenue driver for a solid 20 years and then became a sink in the 2000s. What changed?

We became even more of a convenience / car culture? And are we sure it was a revenue driver? Also yeah… maybe after awhile it just became an attractive nuisance. Their focus on drive-thru is very telling. My local has 2 lanes and it’s always busy but hardly any use of the parking lot. The money is in those that buy and leave, not in those that linger. Also see diminishing comfort levels at every remodeled or new Starbucks.
