A chain indexer is software that takes blocks and reduces it to new derived data A rollup is software that takes blocks and reduces it to new derived data in a provable way A rollup is a great instrument to build an indexer in a provable way. In fact, it's simpler than a general rollup (no sequencer, no concept of "writes", no bridging (unless you want to commit the indexed state to a chain)
