In the endgame, if there's a client with gmail-like market share, then whatever spam filtering that client does would determine what can be posted in practice, right? Situation is better in that at least people's accounts are not tied to the client

You can use two clients simultaneously, just like an Ethereum wallet. In the long term, no lock in other than preference. (Need to get all of the important social features of Warpcast into the protocol.)
