Your casts are offchain on a federated protocol (much like Bluesky and Mastodon). Your name is onchain (unlike any of those). Google sufficiently decentralized

quibble: it decentralized and distributed, but not federated. Each Hub has fully copy of global state.

Every hub can replicate messages from the others, but if a particular set of hubs enforce rules about which messages they’ll replicate (by content, author, attachment size, ..) they’ll diverge right? Hard to enforce global consensus offchain

I agree it is a much better setup than “federated” in the email/mastodon sense where your identity is tied to a specific host!
