This weekend I watched Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure with my 8-year-old son. His reaction: "I have never seen a movie with so much stupidity in it, but in a good way."

I just started a company called Gradient Defense. Here are some thoughts about why I'm doing this at this point in my life. https://iamnotarobot.substack.com/publish/post/135470888

Rejection therapy. Tough love. The right kind of startup failure.

I wrote about the dangers of taking OpenAI's cookbooks and applying them willy-nilly. In this case, the SQL examples. https://iamnotarobot.substack.com/p/generating-sql-with-llms-for-fun

That's true. But I wouldn't want those parts of the brain generating output on social media πŸ˜„

I can type faster than I can think. Output is by far not what limits my productivity.

It's been six months since this tweet. Bitcoin is up 60% since then. Enough said.

yeah, you can only compare web3 to the early internet for a little while. The internet exploded and became useful incredibly quickly. My mother went from not having a computer to having cable modem in three years. It took the world by storm really fast, in a way that crypto or web3 have not.

From a GPT4-powered search engine for developers currently #1 on Hacker News. I asked it how to fix a problem with Docker's DNS. Gee, that's helpful. https://i.imgur.com/13yGMrQ.png

the consensus seems to be: a lot more people are going to live productive lives past 85 or 90 in coming decades with current science and lifestyles. However, we need a scientific breakthrough to extend life significantly beyond 120. The only documented case (Jeanne Calment) is suspect.

I mean that they don't contradict each other. Both are true. Our maximal lifespan is a feature of the genes, and at the same time many people live much less longer than they could because of all the reasons Sinclair points out. It's just performative tweeting.

They are talking past each other. Read David Sinclair's book to see what he means by Lifespan, it's interesting.

I love my 13 mini, and I will keep it for as long as possible. I have no need for a large screen. I carry it in my back pocket too, and I'm not afraid to break it if I accidentally sit on it.

If I were a VC, I would be very cautious about investing in AI startups. This is because to me right now the most likely scenario is that it will benefit the incumbents significantly more than startups. If that's the case, any promising startup will be acquired too early for VCs.
