For safety I go for Palm sides crabs , 

When you see them they try to attack you with them claws , I use the weight of my palms to push back both claws at once.

Enough force to make them claws fold back but not enough to cause harm.

Once you get it in that position, you can pick it up safely.

You catch crabs? WOW!
