Is MM aiming to go all-in on Snaps, e.g. modularity as a core feature? Or will Snaps always be for advanced users, with popular Snaps eventually becoming features in the baseline wallet?

I doubt Snaps will be only for advanced users for long, even today some are seamless. You can check out the Hedera Wallet Snap we just built, and after adding use it right away on pulse.tuum.tech Just one example of the interoperability made available by Snaps
