When Fei-Fei Li built ImageNet with limited resources, she catalyzed an entire AI revolution. High quality data was necessary to start the innovation process, and she put in the effort. In a horse-drawn carriage you have time to correct course. But in a rocket you need millisecond-precise data. That's the AI landscape where our rate of acceleration itself is increasing. I call this the Paradigm of Jolting Technologies, and is the reason why high quality data is crucial today. As autonomous systems multiply beyond the limit of merely 8 billion humans, we'll see an explosion of new data sources. This is going to provide an open-ended, positive-sum economic opportunity for unbounded innovation. Watch the video of the supercut of my remarks at the 9th Quality Conference in Riyadh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZx5DWTC2P8

Have you started to memorize the four letter airport codes? KJFK, KSFO are easy enough. But EGLL, OMDB, or RKSI less so. You can have fun looking around to get acquainted on Flightaware

If you’re in Dubai next week, I’ll be attending several events happening during this particularly intense conference season in the area. Let me know: I’d love to catch up in person. There are a lot of little tricks that can make attending a conference more effective and enjoyable: - making sure that you invest time beforehand to understand the conference format and the agenda, - using the specific conference app if available, or even little things like what I do, - putting a QR code with my contact information as the cover screen of my phone enabling people to very quickly add me to their contacts, and - taking a selfie together, which represents a convenient snapshot of the time and place where we met as a reminder to both. I collected these tips and tricks in a convenient PDF that you can download: a conference participation guide. I hope you enjoy it. https://share.hsforms.com/17vX6ZRSPSl65vt49EwTQagc4fvs

Although I was born in Budapest, I am rarely in Hungary due to my business interests being elsewhere. This is why I am particularly happy to have been invited to participate in a panel discussion at the MVM Future Talks conference. MVM Future Talks is an annual large-scale scientific, educational, and entertainment interactive online talk show, where renowned Hungarian and international experts and celebrities come together at a virtual table. https://www.mvmfuturetalks.hu/

A Dog On The Beach - A story of jolting change in six generations. (Slides from my presentation at the Global AI Week Hackathon with Upstage and Beyond Enterprizes.) Will you be alert? Recognize the weak signals of jolting change? Analyze it before everyone? Endure their skepticism?

For tomorrow's meeting about The Singularity Is Nearer, we are surveying the participants around their views on advanced AI, humanoid robots, brain implants, mind uploading, etc. It's also the way to collect their questions and have them vote on the questions by others, so we don't address them haphazardly, but in order of interest. It's in Italian, but if you speak the language, you are welcome to participate! http://singularityumilan.com/quiz58

On Wednesday, Sept 11 at 6PM CET I will be live in Italian with Ermanno Ferretti, a teacher and writer who makes history and philosophy accessible to everyone. Ermanno, also known as 'scrip', is a history and philosophy professor at the 'Paleocapa' Scientific High School in Rovigo, Italy, with a passion for education. Author of books such as 'For Whom the School Bell Tolls' and 'Semi-serious and Illustrated History of Western Philosophy', Ferretti has conquered the web with his YouTube channel of video lessons, which today counts over 3 million views. What is his unique approach to teaching, his educational projects, and his point of view on the Italian school system? From his podcasts 'Inside Philosophy' and 'Inside History', his books and websites, Ermanno tells us how he manages to make subjects often considered 'heavy' engaging. https://www.youtube.com/live/K8dLhxPgloU
