Given the strict definition of “open source” is often at odds with commercial and marketing incentives – what do people here think of the “fair-code”, “fair source”, and “source first” movements mentioned here?

A doodler and computerer. I like permissive/permissionless open source, smart contracts, p2p systems, room-scale VR, and NixOS.

People complain about OSI gatekeeping the definition of OSS but that's exactly what it prevents. Adding exclusions is no longer OSS.

OSS people tried doing similar shenanigans but OSI kept them out. 

Media IP never got that kind of culture.

Also if you're trying to build an open source community to work on the project, don't be pikachuface when nobody who reads the license wants to touch it because it's not actually open source.
