It wasn’t just contained to the game dev × Reddit hivemind – plenty of millennial big tech employees at Mozilla, Google, et al had similar attitudes in 2021 when NFT mania came out in full swing. Many whose blogs I learned from and who pioneered the web standards I use as a frontend dev on a daily basis.

It was just odd... and kind of sad to see.

For sure. Separating the underlying tech from the emergent culture and the subsequent normie perception is just such an uphill battle on so many fronts.

I’ve had similar discussions with senior dev friends in the past.
