Put simply: the average user knows they have Siri and Google Assistant, and likely (erroneously) assumes they are already powered by some form of AI; but they are unlikely to know what these assistants can and can’t do, so AI announcements come across as product clarifications more than ground breaking features.

You’re right many people see Siri and Google Assistant as AI but don’t grasp their full capabilities or limitations. So, new AI advancements often seem like incremental updates rather than revolutionary breakthroughs.
