My father-in-law is a referee with the PGMOL. He is insanely gifted. We were watching the Arsenal - Newcastle match and I asked him what it would cost to decide if the ball was over the line. I will never forget his answer… 'We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.'"

Totally doable to automate line-based infractions. Not so much the player based stuff… The rules need changing, it’s a tough engineering problem, but the current approach sucks too much joy out of goal celebrations. What about tennis-style challenges? Each team gets three bites of the apple at their discretion
