A photo captures Mamman .J. Vatsa in the early 1980s.. In May 1981, Brigadier Mamman Vatsa was tasked to take charge of border operations against Cameroon during the fracas resulting from the ambush and death of Nigerian soldiers on the Akpa Yafi River. How the Army Headquarters' approved plans for the invasion of Cameroon leaked and found their way, first to French intelligence, and then on to Cameroon, remains a mystery to this day.
