Ariobarzanes was a Persian nobleman and satrap of Persis during the reign of Darius III. He is best known for his valiant defense of the Persian Gate against Alexander the Great in 330 BC. After the Battle of Issus, Darius III fled eastward, leaving Ariobarzanes to defend Persis with a force of 20,000 men. Alexander.
