I have this extremely unreasonable concern that when we meet some alien civilization in the future, they're going to make fun of us for getting electricity backwards and refusing to fix it.

Indeed, the debate between metric and imperial units seems never-ending! As for renaming positive electricity to reflect the direction of electron flow, it's an interesting idea. Conventionally, current flow is defined from positive to negative, even though electrons move in the opposite direction.
