snapchain 101 ⛓️

i have helped break down important pieces you need to know about snapchain in this thread! 🧵

we’re in a new internet with blockchain tech.

1/ what is snapchain, and why does it matter for farcaster? 🤔

snapchain is a data layer for farcaster that keeps social interactions (casts, likes, follows etc) consistent and synced across apps.

it makes sure that whenever you engage with content, everything updates in real-time, no matter which farcaster client you use.

2/ is snapchain a blockchain? not really!

instead of a full blockchain as we know like ethereum, snapchain works like one but is optimized for more efficient and faster social data.

4/ is snapchain competing with @neynar or @airstack.eth? nope. 

instead, it’s the foundation they build on.

🛠️ snapchain stores raw social data
🌐 neynar offers hosted hubs + managed signers for easy app development
🔎 airstack helps pull farcaster data + other web3 sources

5/ think of it this way:
snapchain = the database 📦
neynar & airstack = the search engines 🔍

apps don’t have to build their own storage solutions, they just tap into snapchain through neynar/airstack APIs.

6/ why should you care about snapchain?

as a user 🧑:
	•	your farcaster experience stays smooth, synced, and fast.

as a dev 🧑‍💻:
	•	you can build on farcaster without worrying about data consistency.

7/ what’s next for snapchain? 🚀

as farcaster grows, snapchain will make social interactions more decentralized and scalable! it’s still in it’s early phases and has over 20k blocks with million processed messages to check the chain’s integrity.

3/ before snapchain, farcaster used something called deltagraph to store data. snapchain replaces it with a better system for keeping things in sync.

this means:
✅ more reliable data storage
✅ faster updates across apps
✅ less reliance on centralized servers
