Elon Musk Announces Start of Testing Direct-to-Cell Technology — Connect to High-Speed Satellite Internet will be possible from any point on the globe, even where there are no cell towers. Previously, only SpaceX employees used direct satellite connection in experimental mode.Starlink satellites will act as “space cell towers.” At first, users will only be able to exchange text messages; later, web browsing and calls.
Starlink Internet is currently only available through special terminals. With Direct to Cell technology, any smartphone will be able to receive the signal.
