Meet Rebekah, a registered nurse from Denver, Colorado, who has been volunteering as a combat medic on the frontlines in Ukraine since 2022 ⛑️

She is currently not only evacuating the wounded from the 'hell on earth' areas of the frontline but also training Ukrainian medics. She’s one of the medics I deliver supplies to, and I was honored to finally meet her in person and spend some time with her before she left for another evacuation. 

I know that for many people, war is faceless—just numbers and terms like 'military,' 'medics,' 'casualties.' But I hope to share the stories of the humans who are there, risking their lives every day to save others. People like Rebekah, who aren’t even from Ukraine but are here to help, make me cry every single time because I am so grateful 🫂 and I’m committed to helping with any supplies they need to continue their work.

and everything else "transparent chains"

seeing each other's tx history / balances / spying on counterparties is the version that needs explanation or "narrative"

Really, all of cypherpunk / free software / ... is just trying to preserve boundaries that were unquestioned in the year 1900.

One meta belief I have, is that I think "on the face pursuing idealistic objective A, but actually being tilted toward selfish objective B" is better than "openly pursuing objective B".

Many seem to believe the opposite, typically saying something like "at least the latter is honest".

I feel like what this misses, is that maintaining the face of pursuing idealistic objective A, and using A to coordinate a large coalition, is a pretty big speed bump against attempts to pursue B too brazenly. When "the mask comes off", things actually become much worse, and strategies that pursue B at high costs to other values (including A, and also often general human decency) become unlocked.

Are there any good arguments against this intuition I have? (Whether generalized, or about specific situations)
