The Hierakopolis mural, dating from the late predynastic period and found in a shrine in Upper Egypt, depicts humans, animals and boats in a lifelike and messy manner. This mural is the oldest known example of a thousand-year-old tradition of burial ceremonies in ancient Egypt.
