Today's dinner was fresh, delicious and colorful and my 7 year old devoured several of these spring rolls stuffed with tofu, veggies and sprouts. A true rainbow on a plate. Proud to say that Thai basil, cilantro and lettuce came from my hydroponic garden. Do your kids like vegetables or it is usually a tough sell?

I am puzzled how kids' ears are tuned. I could be calling them to come clean, or get dressed or brush teeth and they would not hear me at all. But if I very carefully whisper to my husband that i bought ice cream, I immediately would hear from across the house- "i want some!"

Every summer I maintain outdoors garden but when season ends i switch to hydroponics (only one of two pictured ). I find it a very sustainable option, because i never need to run grocery store when i need a few springs of dill or basil. My kids also love it and snack on healthy herbs and lettuce any time of the day.

For the last few weeks I have been regularly making sourdough bread. Our amazing nanny has taught me all the secrets and shared her own starter that she had maintained for over 1.5 years. I don't think we are going back to store bought breads any time soon. I wish you could smell it through the screen.
