Decentralization must occur in stages. Transparency and consistency in the process is what's most important.

I dont think Dan sending a DM is either transparent nor consistent. Would he do the same for a twitter with 2k followers ?

Farcaster always marketed itself as "sufficiently decentralized". Channels names could be partially centralized, the same way the default off-chain ens fnames are, with no harm done to the network.
