Spoke with an extremely talented / well networked founder friend who is winding down his company after a pivot that fell flat. I asked what's next and he had a very wise metaphor "I don't want to go to the grocery store hungry" What he meant by this was that he didn't want to immediately start something again because once you've had a taste of what could be with a startup, it's natural to lick your chops at any and every idea that sounds feasible It's very common for startups to start with some altruistic purpose driven mission only to go where the money is. It's super easy to prognosticate when the bank account is full, but when that number starts dwindling it's traction or bust. There are no atheists in foxholes and there are no philanthropists trying to make payroll. But this is not the ideal scenario and there are far more gravestones in this category than headlines I think taking the time to reset the hunger and focus on getting a business right (ethos & $$) from the jump is a great practice
