Something I keep noticing with memecoins is how many people who thrived in past crypto crime seasons are now loud critics. Memecoins = bad. Yet so many got rich off ICOs, NFTs, and DeFi tokens—maybe some self-reflection is in order before criticizing. As if nobody remembers past cycles and their crime seasons. Those three were just as dirty in the beginning. Let’s not forget the $50M-$100M-$200M ICOs, blatant cash grabs wrapped in marketing. Or the DeFi Summer fair launches, where whales took most of the money off the table. Same playbook with NFTs. Yet somehow, people don’t call those times crime seasons now, even though they were. The upside? Crime seasons always leave behind new infrastructure, apps, new users, and proven use cases. What starts as chaos eventually builds value in the very categories where crime once thrived. Onwards.
