Animated PFP's are going away on Warpcast 😔 

This was a much loved feature, but caused crashes and performance issues for many Android users. There was no easy fix.  

If you have an animated pfp, we'll show it as a static image going forward.

Sometimes, many ideas in software design are interesting and engaging. Users love them and interact well with them. However, users are often unaware of the issues these features can cause in the background on their device.

If such features are removed, it is always for the benefit of the user. A good design should pay attention to resource consumption and system performance, as they have a direct impact on the overall efficiency.

i think this could be an easy settings toggle for users who have crash issues or don't want the battery drain / extra data consumption 

make it default off if worried about complaints

saying it's too hard to keep one of the few features that distinguishes this platform is just throwing in the towel

we can animate a whole feed full of videos but the gifs are too much more? 

game devs put out apps which throw animations on multiple arbitrary surfaces and a scrolling flat plane is too hard? 

i don't know the backend details of why this causes crashing or why it's hard to fix, but it's a sad day for a beloved feature

Absolutely, It is a reasonable suggestion that the feature is configurable like Telegram to reduce costs.

I don't think it's hard either, but it seems that the warpcast structure is not optimal. @v
