Dostoevsky suffered from epilepsy, and this experience was reflected in several of his works. For example, the main character of Crime and Punishment, Rodion Raskolnikov, as well as Prince Myshkin from The Idiot suffer from this disease. Dostoevsky claimed that immediately before the attack he felt extraordinary clarity of thinking and closeness to the divine.
