In Ancient Greece, women were not particularly respected, they were not taught to read and write, they did not have the right to vote, and their whole life depended only on the man with whom she lived. But this in no way concerned the residents of Sparta. Girls and boys up to the age of seven were raised approximately the same there, they played and developed physically equally, then the boys were sent to schools, but the attitude towards girls did not change, they were given a lot of freedom and did not try to humiliate them. They got married not at the age of 12-15, as in the rest of Ancient Greece, but at the age of 16-18. At the same time, the woman was considered the main one in the family.
