The main issue that I had to deal with last time I did an update to it was that the circim-hardhat plugin has been unmaintained for a couple years now. It was somewhat reasonable at that time to just use older versions of circom, but I think doing that now would be horribly outdated, and not reflect the reality of actually using the tool
