A thread 1) Hello Degen community! cc @jacek @cadillion @wake I believe you all have noticed the recent developments and discussions to the tipping system. And today some moderators have been appointed to decide if some tip activities should be revoked. I am a nobody and have very few followers but as a long term supporter of$DEGEN I also want to give my two cent. I remembered few days ago Jacek said the tipping mechanics are too PvP right now. I am not sure if we have different understanding to PvP, but I do believe to moderate the tipping activities will definitely make the system more PvP. I viewed the recent discussions in the TG group, and yes, there are many debates. It started from one guy criticized the other user as a farmer, and that user fought back and said that guy tipped each other with his friend in the precious seasons as well. Then the war brake out and lots of members participated.

2) I don’t remember any rules of tipping have been advised before when the lock feature was launched. And I remember Jacek once said in TG group that If you staked DEGEN, feel free to tip whoever you like.

3) While the farming activities could be discussed later, I strongly believe the moderation of tipping is wrong. People have locked their token for 3 months and were given tip allowance. They never expect in the begging that if their tips are valid should be decided by other people.

4) By the way, to prove I am true supporter, when Jacek firstly set up the poll to decide how long the $DEGEN shall be locked, I selected 12 months. And at that time, I don’t even know what benefits it would be to lock $DEGEN.

5) OK, so what is the consequence of moderation? Like Jacek said, it would make the community to be more PvP. As shown in the TG group, when moderator say an user is farming, definitely the user would try to investigate the moderator’s activities, and even try to show there are other users are farming but not have been identified. Can the system be more PvP? People will fight and whistle-blowing each other. Is this what you want to see?

6) let’s further discuss the moderation itself. As I have seen, some people said the tips should be given to valuable or interesting contents. So who decide what contents are valuable and interesting? The moderators? I have foreseen a picture. As time goes by, people will know more and more about the tastes of the moderators, and will begin to post the contents that those moderators like. Is it really what we want to see? To grant the crowns to some people and let the others to please them? Is it even the vision of DEGEN? Originally we want the community to be open and welcomed to newcomers.

7) Besides I have also noticed the list of the moderators. All are power badge holders. Let me be straightforward, farcaster has already been harsh for newcomers. I noticed no matter what shitposts the PB holders have posted, they got replies by their friends and other ordinary users who hope to interact with the holders to try to get the PB. Originally $DEGEN is a good try to tokenize the farcaster community and absorb outsiders to join this community. But now I see the $DEGEN community is also becoming more and more closed and unwelcome to the newcomers. Do you really think by this way the community could be bigger?

8) today I noticed some discussions about allocating the incentives of locking/staking between rewards to oneself and tip allowance. I believe it is also wrong. The reason for the change of season 6 is because $degen is now an independent token, so the allocation of tips should based on whether you are “skin in the game”, but not if you are a power user of farcaster. I believe this change is great. Now people who deposited their money have the choice to tip whoever they like. It could be interesting posts, educational posts, your friends irl, and even yourself (although I don’t like this, but freedom should be given). After all, $DEGEN is a tipping currency. It is intuitive to make the benefits of locking to be tip allowance only. It is the people’s choice to tip whoever they like. To change the benefits to be like 50% reward / 50% tips sounds like the team has never figure out the reason for the change of season 6.
