The tough part about the Zora OP retro airdrop situation is that its indicative of a wider problem that creators are not valued onchain by the wider crypto ecosystem. Teams that are building for creators are struggling more than ever because its unclear how to build for the artist to fan relationship in a way that doesn't purely rely on speculation. It's one thing for a creator who is extremely active onchain and has a deep knowledge of crypto to be successful - but many times that's just catering to earn from the other people who are already here and have disposable income to spend supporting someone who's been a part of the game for a while. Fwiw I believe that @zora has made more impact for creators onchain in the last year than any other team in crypto. And yet - they still are facing public backlash from minters (and creators) who feel they were wronged for not getting paid out more when Zora itself did not even receive the maximum allocation from the last OP Retro round. I've been vocal for a while that crypto drastically overvalues infrastructure and wildly undervalues the products and teams that can get new users into the mix with added grants and funding. Today we're seeing that come true where Zora voluntarily gave their users $750k for free and people are still upset. As someone who wasn't eligible and minted on Zora I was surprised - but I also recognize that its extremely hard to reward so many people without the reward amounts being so small that they don't move the needle at all. What I'm trying to say is that the bad guy here is not Zora. It's everyone who feels wronged being more vocal about creators needing to be a priority demographic in 2025 and ensuring teams that do have massive treasuries (like Optimism and many new L1s and L2s) properly allocating resources towards onboarding and rewarding those who support creators onchain. This is a big reason why I resonate with @base mission to help creators go viral in 2025.
