The single reason React team is not recommending Vite is because of it's affilliation to Vue. They first said "oh there's Parcel, affects marketing blah blah". But in the dev space it's way too common to recommend the most used and most loved tools because they tend to have less bugs, better security, better integration, etc. 

They're likely thinking: 'If we recommend Vite, Evan might use that recommendation to plugin Vue to newer developers like "Vite does a, b, c but if you use Vue you may not need a, b, c". But if it was that simple everyone would be using Vue by now as Vite has been the standard in React land for at least 3 years while winning tooling of the year.
