a recent leak showed that 1000s of popular apps, like Candy Crush, Tinder, MyFitnessPal, and religious apps, are being used to collect your location data without you or the app developers knowing. shady players in the ad industry are quietly grabbing location data through something called real-time bidding (RTB), an automated process where advertisers bid on ad space in milliseconds, and during this process, data about users (like location) is often shared with multiple parties. the data is then sold to businesses or even government agencies like ICE and the FBI through a company called Venntel. it’s been used for tracking visits to sensitive places like clinics. https://archive.is/7zC2f
