The history of graffiti
The roots of graffiti can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Rock paintings, petroglyphs, and writings on walls are all predecessors of modern graffiti. In ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece, artists decorated the walls of buildings and temples.
However, modern graffiti originated in the 1960s in New York City, where young people from poor neighborhoods began using spray paint cans to express their identity, protest and creativity. From that point on, graffiti began a meteoric rise in popularity that spread around the world, acquiring new styles and techniques. 1 reply
