Time for a Synbio Intervention (with love) Take a deep dive with me and learn why “a cell is not a computer—a cell is a cell” The bioengineering revolution isn’t dead. It’s just taking the long road. https://open.substack.com/pub/editlife/p/synbios-reality-check

@gmo this is amazing! When we rely on synbio for production alone I think a lot of these problems are highlighted the most. (We want a lot of something and we want it quickly) The alternative is to do something like use a GMO to deliver something, but as you said, regulations get in the way. Companies like pivot bio do the whole industry a disservice when they advertise that they "will never create any products classified as GMO in any market", fueling the narrative that for some reason GMOs are inherently evil. (They get away with it by using cisgenic mutations but I would argue that to the avg person.. that's a GMO and they are "benefitting" from an arbitrary regulatory classification.) Meanwhile there are companies like ZBiotics who aren't shying away from using a GMO for targeted benefits to consumers. I hope more companies go that route.

Thanks so much! It’s honestly been such a treat to have you on this platform to engage with!! And you’re sooo right about the pivot bio “loophole” we really need to overhaul communication and work in the gmo public perception space. So many angles of disingenuous discourse/policy/messaging
