As a gardener seeing the little seedlings finally poking out of the dirt is literally the best feeling 😍 These are marigolds, I've heard they are good companion plants as they deter pests, has anyone had luck with this?

Hmm. The grasshoppers that are my biggest garden pest love marigolds more than anything and eat them down to shreds of doilies, so I guess maybe the marigolds act like sacrificial lambs that save some grazing on my other plants...

Oh nooooo lol, I did leave a ton of weeds around my plants last year trying to create a *sacrifice barrier*. slugs are by far the worst pest for us I hate them so much 😭 so many during spring when the seedlings are tiny and weak

when we lived in Oregon slugs & snails were the primary culprits. In Utah it is so dry they aren't a big issue at all. I have hordes of grasshoppers in the garden though.

I tried so much stuff but I throw them into a bucket of saltwater now, it's disgusting but effective 🤢
