I have an A7 and a similar setup but no light right now - is there a light you rec that works neatly in a camera shoe without being a pain to deal with in terms of power etc?

Great question - lighting is the real game changer There isnโ€™t a go to on camera light I can recommend- they will all be about the same so find the one that fits your budget But Iโ€™d take that money and instead save it for finding a key light that fits your space What is your room like? Do you have an example

Desk is perpendicular to a double window, so gets a fair amount of natural side light and ambient light. So the lighting is really more about lighting up my face/filling in the front of my face and that's about it. Have thought that maybe an Elgato key light mini or ring light would suffice, but tbd. This is with no active lighting at all straight out of the camera

BINGO Practical light in the background Light coming from the window is pretty harsh so soften it with some diffusion or a curtain maybe even cut it halfway so your backdrop is a bit darker Great light tho - i would kill for a nice window now grab a fill light this is where you could probably get away with a HS light actually but i can send you some other ideas you just need something that can lift those shadows without washing you out and making this whole image FLAT This is going to look good
