People can give a lot of meaning and attachment to items.

I'd rather have an item that I can look at to remember the day, rather than an experience that I will, ultimately, forget (at some point).

i think both are great ideas depending on the person, does your partner value experiences over items ? or rather you could combine both, plan a fun day where in the end you give them a gift
