Why didn’t I leave? A response to @artlu’s essay on why he left farcaster as his show co-host (https://artlu.xyz/why-did-he-leave-aug2024/) The first time I chatted with Art on a zoom call: he immediately began his characteristic monologue: about how there are people who are interacting with us on farcaster that we never see on warpcast. They saw what we are saying and try to get us to reply, but we didn’t even know they were there.* Like ghosts! I was horrified, but I chuckled at how he didn’t ask a single question about me in the entire call. We did bond over our wish for fairness in farcaster especially with our common minority background, since this social platform is a microcosm of society-at-large. 1/X

Art reached out again after I casted my stand-up comedy bits, and the /bcbhshow was born as a way for us to comedically surface issues affecting the Farcaster “middleclass.” What he brought up in his essay, I’ve heard him explain both on our show and in private. I spent a month before his departure convincing him to not “cut the nose to spite the face.” Yet I knew he had to leave, and I was going to stay. We are both supportive of each other’s decisions—it just depends on what you want to achieve, and whether you are doing it with your eyes wide open. 2/X

1. Builder vs Yapper: Art is a builder through-and-through who worships at the altar of FOSS, and I’m a content creator (aka yapper.) If you are building on top of Farcaster, his points are valid ones to consider and watch out for. For content creators, Farcaster is still a fantastic place to be, especially for those of us who do better in smaller and growing communities.
 2. Idealists vs Pragmatists: Art is seeking a platform that is truly decentralized, rather than "sufficiently." As someone who never expected to find crypto-utopia in the first place, I did not experience the same level of disappointment Art had justifiably experienced. Instead, I’m your typical nomad from fragmented platforms like X/twitter, looking for a new community to share vibes and to build a content strategy business to serve others. I found refuge in the smart and kind minds on Farcaster, and am willing to live under benevolent dictatorship as we all contribute to the existential survival needs of this platform. 3/X
